Zarya Cynader

Zarya is a partner at Gilbert’s LLP, a law firm dedicated to serving the unique needs of innovation-driven businesses. She has practiced intellectual property (IP) and pharmaceutical regulatory law for over ten years. Clients in the biotech, pharmaceutical, medical device and consumer products industries rely on her advice throughout the product life cycle, from assessing freedom to operate and navigating pre-launch regulatory issues through executing successful and cost-effective litigation strategies.

Zarya’s practice routinely involves coordinating Canadian litigation in the context of multi-jurisdictional disputes and advising on cross-border aspects of IP and regulatory strategy, and she is well-versed in both Canadian and U.S. patent and regulatory law. In Canada, she regularly appears before the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal in a variety of IP matters. She has also advocated for her clients before all levels of court in Ontario, trial courts in British Columbia and Alberta, and regulatory bodies such as Health Canada and FDA.

Zarya is frequently invited to speak on IP and litigation topics and is an active member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada. Since 2015, she has been an adjunct faculty member at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law, where she works with the Structural Genomics Consortium to educate the next generation of creative biotech lawyers and advance the legal frontiers of open science.

Zarya received her B.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of British Columbia and her J.D. from the University of Toronto. She is licensed to practice law in Ontario and New York.
